LaVon Hardison

LaVon Hardison’s glossy, warm tone and infectious stage presence have been delighting jazz enthusiasts and lovers of live music for decades. Her training in jazz, musical theater and opera as well as extensive stage and TV acting, commercial voiceover work, and exposure to a broad sampling of musical genres have shaped her persona as a jazz singer with a rock-and-roll sensibility. LaVon’s burnished sound and expressive stage presence are influenced by the gospel music of her youth in her home city of Boston, classical vocal training, and everything from a longtime swing collaboration to live musical theater performances. Beneath LaVon’s undeniably jazzy sound, you’ll hear soul, country, pop, and punk bubbling beneath the surface. She has released four solo albums of jazz standards, soulful explorations, pop covers, and inspirational songs and swing collaborations.“I try to make music that delights me,” she says. “When I first started singing jazz I felt that I had to do it a certain way. I had to be sultry and sophisticated. Now I follow my gut and I follow the song. I am more open musically. Time, mixed with life experience, awakens new depths in songs.”LaVon was a featured performer at the 2009 Festival of World Sacred Music in New Delhi, India. In 2016, she won the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Jazz Vocalist Audition at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, which took her on three-city performance tour of Japan. She is the Earshot Jazz 2017 Vocalist of the Year.
